About Me and My Blog

Where did Flip-Flops and Walking boots come from?

While thinking of a suitable name for my blog, I wanted something that encompassed my life and what I wanted to write about.  I spend as much time as possible in flip flops in our averagely warm British summers, but sometimes only walking boots will do!

I wanted to blog about all my travels, not just the hill-walking in our gorgeous English countryside, but also our family days out to visitor attractions where you certainly don’t need walking boots.  Occasionally you will find foreign travels here and a few cafes and food experiences too.  I blog about our holidays adventures in France which I love, but mostly I blog about the UK.

I have to admit that I am a fair weather walker and visitor.  If it’s raining outside, hopefully you’ll find me snuggled up somewhere in the warm.  I don’t really do rain or the cold very well.   I much prefer to be in the sunny warmth with a pair of  flipflops on my feet.  But I’m happy to pull on a pair of walking boots and travel the paths through our lovely and varied countryside too.

About Me

I’m a fair weather person and like my comforts.   I’ve been hill walking for most of my life and walk prepared for the eventualities of the area I’m in.  You’ll not find me wild camping, instead I’ll search out a homely B&B instead or find a decent campsite to use as a base.  I use an offline mapping app on my phone with excellent GPS to keep me on route along with a good observant pair of eyes.  An ‘old fashioned’ map and compass are in the rucksack just in case. We always have a couple of fully charged phones and a charged power bank too in case of emergencies and a small first aid kit.

Currently I just make being ‘a 40 something’ wife to a Design Engineer and Mum to two student sons. We live near the centre of England in the pretty county of Northamptonshire.  It’s home to Silverstone – Formula 1, Althorp House and is known as ‘the Rose of the Shires’.  Once upon a time at home we had a succession of guinea pigs, now I have a small fish pond filled with beautiful Sarasa Comets.

I like to craft and sew in my other work life, but that’s a different story.

So sit back with a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate and join me on my eclectic travels, visits, days out and walks around the United Kingdom and wherever else I travel.
